Suggestions to reduce Myopia in school children

Mandatory yearly eye checkups in schools; pre-k to grade 12

Annual eye exams, like mandated vaccines, should be a requirement to monitor and analyze a child's ocular health and make it possible for schools to take measurements of the length of an adolescent's eye. Children are provided with free yearly eye examinations, so families are not overwhelmed financially.

Windows in every classroom

Every classroom needs to have a window so that schoolchildren who happen to be working nearsighted all day are able to look out to take a break and minimize the stress on their eyes.

Mandatory for kids to do eye exercises at the beginning of each class

Children should be required to participate in eye exercises for one to two minutes at the very start of every class. Ocular exercise improves achy, weak eyes, increases the the stream of blood to the eyes, and helps minimize the likelihood of acquiring myopia.

Examples of eye exercises:

-cupping

-rotate eyes upwards, downwards and sideways

-look outside the window at far distance

-refocusing

-zooming

-20-20-20 rule

Improve classroom lighting

Brighter illumination eases the pressure on our eyes, thus classroom lighting should be improved. When we stare at objects in low light, especially when reading, our eyes are compelled to squint. Therefore, we must enhance the illumination in order to lessen eye strain.

We should learn about myopia as an actual part of our curriculum.

Science classes should incorporate a lesson on myopia into the curriculum because, if we understand it now, we can take steps to avoid developing it later in life.

School should open the cafeteria and serve good quality food

Fruit has a major favorable effect on our eyes, thus our school should give two distinct fruits that pupils must eat. We should also provide high-quality food as some parents may not be able to prepare healthy lunches for their kids every day. By providing high-quality food, we will not only assist parents by saving them so much time to prepare lunch every morning, but also provide pupils with healthy options. If not, the cafeteria serves just as a showpiece.

Lockers in the halls

Lockers in the hallways would let kids get even a little extra exercise during the day.

Bigger chrome books

As I've mentioned before, larger devices are healthier for our eyes, hence we need larger Chromebooks.

Make school bigger

Library-

Our school's library is actually rather tiny, and it ought to be much larger.

Classrooms-

To be honest, some of the classrooms are really tiny. For instance, my kindergarten class was larger than the majority of my classrooms in subsequent grades, and the 7C classroom is the smallest one in the whole grade 7. This improves children's vision and lets them see farther, which has an effect on their eye health.

Playground-

Because it's outside, provides fresh air, and gives kids more sunlight—which is crucial for preventing myopia—the playground is a great place to lessen myopia. The playground should thus be expanded because it is the only area that can effectively aid in the reduction of myopia, right?

-More equipment in playground

We require additional equipment because it improves blood circulation in the eyes and eases muscular tension in the eyes.

Bigger monitors in ADST lab

In the ADST Lab, we ought to have larger monitors as larger computers would relieve eye strain because larger devices are healthier for our eyes.

Windows in ADST lab

Even though students should learn the fundamentals of coding, the ADST Lab is the best place to increase myopia, so windows are necessary. Additionally, students can always look out the window in the lab whenever they feel the need to take a break from their eyes.

Students switch classes

In order to allow pupils to add a little bit more movement to their day, at least in grade 8, it is the students' responsibility to transfer classrooms. In addition to helping with myopia, this teaches them how to socialize and establish new friends with others in their grade.

Better WiFi in classrooms

All of the classes have to have improved WiFi since kids are constantly searching for the ideal spot to sit in order to get WiFi. Not only does this take away from the learning process for a few minutes, but students become irritated with the WiFi and end up looking at the Chromebook. It is undoubtedly unhealthy for our eyes and not a smart way to treat myopia to stare at Chromebooks. Overly dry eyes exacerbate myopia. Wet eyes indicate a deficiency in water, which brings me to my next point.

Students should be given at least 3 water breaks during the day

Many students drink little to no water during school hours, so it is important that they have at least three water breaks (lunch and snack NOT included). Eye strain, dry eyes, and poor vision can be caused by not getting enough water in your diet.
